03 - 3D Key

If you've completed the Prerequisite steps on the Space Portal sidebar, you should be able to get here.

Select 3D Key

Click 'Copy and Tinker,' and start creating your Key.

If you're new to 3D design, it helps to practice basic navigation and object selection.

Rename the file to your group number. (e.g. Copy of group_ _ → group00)

Add a cylinder to your scene. Left click on the cylinder to select it, then click on one of those white boxes once to adjust the length/ width/ height accordingly.

Rotate by selecting the rotate icon

Left click hold and drag the arrow until the cylinder is laying flat on the ground

Go to TOP view, and switch to flat view (orthographic).

Since the short and long cylinders have the same diameter, you can reuse the long cylinder by duplicating it or using copy and paste, then shorten its length. Hover your mouse over any of these icons for about two seconds to see their descriptions. The copy-and-paste method is easier to use because it creates a copy next to the selected object instead of overlapping it.

You can use the Delete, Undo, and Redo buttons if you make a mistake.

Bonus tip: Make sure that one side of the short cylinder is positioned in the center of the long cylinder, as shown in the picture below. You can also temporarily change one of the cylinders to Transparent for easier preview. Additionally, you may need to adjust the Snap Grid to a lower value to move the cylinder more precisely.

When your design is complete, select all the objects by clicking and dragging from an empty area to create a selection box around them. Then, merge them by clicking Union Group (Ctrl+G).

Congratulations! Your design is complete and ready for slicing and 3D printing!

How to use: Insert the key with the teeth facing down and turn clockwise to open the chest.

Printing should take about 10-15 minutes, as long as the design isn't too big or complicated.
